   Tick season is here!

This is a photo of an engorged tick removed from one of our patients!  We have seen quite a few ticks this year.

Ticks can transmit Lyme's disease, babesiosis, ehrlichiosis, Rocky Mountain spotted fever, and many other diseases.

The Brown Dog Tick is commonly seen in our area.  The photo below shows how the appearance changes as the attached tick engorges with blood.

Ticks live in tall grasses.  We recommend the Lyme vaccine for dogs that spend time hunting, camping, or going for walks in places with grasses.

Another common tick we see is the Deer Tick.

We recommend that all dogs are treated with Frontline, a topical flea and tick preventative.  Please give us a call today if you have any questions about ticks and tick prevention!
